On Saturday, Dec. 19 from The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV, lightweight title contender Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone will take on striker extraordinaire Ed Ratcliff, while in the co-main event, Muay Thai sensation Anthony Njokuani battles former IFL star Chris Horodecki. When the smoke clears on Dec. 19, the world may know who is next in line for a crack at the WEC lightweight champion.

"Four of our top lightweights are going to be competing on Dec. 19, each with his sights set on securing a coveted shot at the world title," WEC GM Reed Harris said. "Cerrone vs. Ratcliff has the potential to be an explosive standup war. We can expect much of the same from Njokuani and Horodecki as well. This is the perfect holiday gift for fans."

There's no doubting the fact that the upcoming Kelly Pavlik-Miguel Angel Espino fight is a whole lot less attractive than the originally hoped for Pavlik-Paul Williams fight. And, it must be said, because he will be facing the former "Contender" star next instead of Williams, many boxing fans are disappointed in Pavlik. But the good news is the middleweight champion is at least back and ready to recommence fighting.

Even better news is the fact that the staph infection that so served to hinder (and possibly even threaten to end his career) has at last healed. Bad timing, it seems, is what stopped the troubled Pavlik-Williams clash from taking place this year.. Now fit to fight on December 19th - fingers crossed (no pun intended) there is no further bad news waiting to flair back up regarding the staph infection - Pavlik will be returning to the ring for the first time since February a mere two weeks after Williams meets light-middleweight titlist Sergio Martinez.

Former two time World Champion Gerry Penalosa will be pitted against Mexican Fernando Montiel, the reigning WBO Bantamweight Champion, this coming December 19, 2009 for the WBO Bantamweight Title. Penalosa expressed his desire to fight Montiel and said that this will be the last flurry before would finally hang his gloves and ride to the sunset. Although this statement shows some heart from the former champ, a lot of people would disagree and rather have him retire now. I would pay to see Gerry fight one more time but I would agree with the experts at this point.
